The Tower is a lovely looking restaurant and the views from (some of) the tables is fantastic.

But to get to the point, when you are spending the sort of money this restaurant asks, the food and service has to be excellent. The Tower is good but not excellent. There are sparks of some very intelligent things happening in the kitchen like the chilled broad bean soup with a zingy mint sorbet, then they follow it up with sea bass served on a bed of boredom (or clam cioppino, as they liked to call it). Also what didn't help is when you can see the waiting staff larking around out of the corner of your eye. The Maitre`di was fantastic, but should have pulled the staff in line.

The food at this restaurant was good but far from exciting, overall you could see that quality ingredients were used but the dishes were hit and miss. I can imagine if you chose well on the roulette menu, you would be pleased with this restaurant.

I hate leaving a restaurant feeling a little out of pocket for the experience - Edinburgh has a super selection for fine dining and I feel a little let down choosing the Tower.
