The food is good but my meal was VERY overpriced - £8.90 for a single slice of smoked salmon with a touch of sorbet. What a shame, I'd love to go back but I won't be able to afford it!

As a regular customer at Urban Angel I feel I have to comment and counter the unfairly negative reviews which have been posted previously. We have never experienced anything other than pleasant and attentive service at Urban Angel, and some of the best food in Edinburgh.

Yes, i agree that at weekends it can take longer, but we always make a point of going before the rush and I think it is worth the wait, a reassuringly busy restaurant suggests they're doing something right.

I also find it amusing that the 2 negative reviews both highlight ordering things that aren't on the menu??? I think it speaks volumes about the customer profile of reviewers who demand preferential treatment and then stamp their feet when they have to wait.

On a positive, these postings have inspired me to write a weekly review of my favourite eateries to fight the negative reviewers in the world.

Excellent food, excellent service... excellent chocolate brownie

If you are looking for a disaster area as far as service is concerned then you have certainly found it here. The staff simply do not care about the customers; they mix up the orders with long, unexplained delays before any further response is provided. The response to my complaint was that the staff were new....whose responsibility is it to train them I wonder! With a one year old in the party we waited for around an hour for a boiled egg to be served....the reason we were eventually given was that it was not on the menu.

The food was passable but that surely does not justify this type of service..I was advised that the Duty Manager was highly experienced. If that is the case then she should surely have seen just what was happening or not happening to be more precise and done something about it.

This place makes Fawlty Towers seem like the Ritz

I went to Urban Angel for breakfast one Monday morning with my girlfriend and my sister.

Menu: Appalling. They couldn't do scrambled eggs, only what was on the menu. I plumped for toast and jam, a snip at £3.95. When we asked what smoothies they had, the waiter replied " too many to remember, have a look yourself". Obviously he'd had a heavy weekend and couldn't be bothered with his job. By the looks of things he couldn't be bothered having a shower either.

Service: Appalling.

All style and no substance, they must have paid for their awards that they so unashamedly promoted on their menu. I would urge you to avoid this place.

A recent visit to Urban Angel after a long absence set my mind into confusion as to why I had waited so long to return, it is one of Edinburgh's most enjoyable hidden secrets. Re-assuring to see that even with an new and refreshed menu, old favourites (haggis and clapshot mash, the Urban Angel burger) are still available alongside inventive daily specials (what's the saying... if it isn't broken?). Relaxed, friendly staff we're well informed on the origin of the produce available and my main of Buccleuch rib eye stake was cooked perfectly. Waiting for a table at lunchtime is clear sign that word is spreading, but personally I can't wait to get in line again.

I used to love having lunch in urban angel and felt that i was supporting fair trade products at the same time. Until the last time the staff seemed to have a certain attitude which pretty much spoilt the experience. I expect the staff to be polite, etc. It was really busy and I'm not sure if they were coping with the demand.

This is my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy, the philosophy is for local, organic, fair trade and the food is wonderful. I highly recommend getting some plates of tapas to share and getting stuck into the sumptuous flavours and ingredients cooked to perfection.
