The Scotsman, The North Bridge Brasserie
your comments review this restaurant
We stayed at The Scotsman for 3 nights and had the most wonderful breakfasts - the eggs benedict with smoked salmon was divine!
We spent our last night of our Edinburgh stay having supper in the North Bridge Brasserie (having eaten at Oloroso and Hadrians the previous nights - see other reviews). We were very pleased with all restaurants, but I have to give the best starter to North Bridge Brasserie - scallops with stornaway (black) pudding - three delicious sweet and succulent queen scallops on a crisp slice of black pudding. It really was a triumph!! (My husband has forgotten what he had, and I can't remember either.) For the mains I chose the veggie opton of Mushroom tart served with asparagus - the flavour was good, if the pastry a touch dry. My husband had fillet steak which he gave 8/10 (Oloroso had the edge). I had the spotted dick and custard - which was excellent with modern presentation. My husband had home made ice cream, which was reported to be very good.
The wine list was good and started at a sensible price, comparing well with the price of the food - the same cannot be said of Hadrians.
We ate up on the balcony and got a good view of Calton Hill, and enjoyed the restaurant's beautiful architecture and detail.
Also, the service was very efficient and friendly (compare with Hadrians).
