Empires

Arrived quite late on a cold Wednesday evening but was greeted warmly and spent a nice relaxing couple of hours there.

Empires is a cosy intimate cafe with friendly staff and good food (meze of 5 dishes £15.95 or eat as much as you want for £23.95 pp). No licence so BYOB (£3 cover charge).

Music (acoustic guitar) on Fridays and Saturdays and occasionally a belly dancer may wobble around.

My husband and I had a fantastic evening at the Empires last night. Ali and Miriam were attentive, helpful and friendly. The Turkish meze were fantastic, far more filling than we thought. The small friendly restaraunt was full of Turkish charm and ambience.We were certainly not hurried from our table, we entered at 7;30 and left at 11:00 helping Ali to put up the shutters.A fantastic night, we will certainly come back to Edinburgh just to eat at this gem of a restaraunt, already looking for cheap train tickets.Thanx Ali and Miriam for making last night one of the best nights i have ever had, we hope to see you again soon.

My friends and I have attended this restaurant twice and on both occasions we thoroughly enjoyed the food, however, on both occasions we were basically hounded for our table by the owner and waitress! My friend hadn't actually finished eating and the waitress tried to take her plate away!? Once we had been there for just over 1 hour, and had basically just finished eating, they were clearing everything away from our table and standing over us making us feel very uncomfortable and trying to basically push us out the door. We weren't even offered any desserts, just the bill! This was after booking the table 1 week before...it was pretty poor! We found the whole evening to be very disappointing, very annoying and very rude! This is NOT a place to go if you are looking for a nice relaxing meal!!

Six of us arrived at 8:30pm to celebrate a job promotion and ended up having the best evening! The food was wonderful, the staff were outstanding and the live entertainment created a wonderful atmosphere. Remember to book ahead!
