La P'tite Folie

This is a great restuarant for lunch with consistantly terriffic food and warm service from the French waitors and waitresses. It is always busy which adds to the French feal and atmosphere. The food is always good, and the choices on the set lunch are always tempting. I love the mussels which always come piping hot, with plenty of bread to mop up the garlicky juices. Staples such as Beef Provencal have a terrific depth of flavour and the accompying veg is always cooked to perfection.I rarely get to dessert as the portions are always spott on but I'm sure the're good too. Unpretentious, tasty, French food delivered with style at a price that doesn't require a special occassion.

I was very interested by the recent article in a National newspaper concerning this establishment having eaten at La P'tite Folie in Randolph Place, Edinburgh on many occasions. As the article was less than complimentary, which was completely in contrast to my experiences, I decided to re-visit this eatery once more to see for myself if the standard had suddenly dropped. I was pleasantly re-assured that nothing had changed and that the atmosphere, friendliness of staff and fine french food on offer was as exceptional as ever. This leads me to believe that the critic and not the restaurant, as he had suggested, 'had a bad day'. The fact that he featured a photograph of the downstairs casual eating area rather than the main restaurant adds fuel to the fire that he was not at his best. I should add that I have recommended this restaurant to many of my friends and they have all been impressed by the warmth of greetings that meet you.
